Life After Gastric Bypass - How Different Will It Be?
By Susan Dean
If you are someone wondering what life after gastric bypass will be like then you are probably someone who is considering this surgical procedure for yourself. And if this is the case then you are someone who is obese and has had it with diets that do not work. Not only that but you would probably be someone who has gotten into the routine of binge eating all the wrong types of fatty and sugary foods.

Well then, life after gastric bypass will be very different for you than it is now. So different in fact that you will be changing not only the food that you eat but also how much and how often that you eat. This of course will be coupled with regular exercise.

If you are about to endure this type of weight reduction technique you no doubt will have learnt all about what will occur but I will tell you anyway. First off you must be what is known as morbidly obese. You have to show that you have tried many ways to lose weight yourself. Once you have been accepted by a surgeon then you will be booked into hospital to have the procedure. This consists of an incision in the abdomen where then the stomach is turned into a pouch and bypassed making your stomach much smaller than before. By having a smaller stomach you will only be able to consume smaller meals helping you to shed weight easily.

Once this operation has been done and if everything has gone fine then you will probably go home after about 5 days. In hospital you will be fed clear fluids to start off with then you will move to pureed foods. It is important not to overload your stomach too soon. Of course you will also need to take it easy as you have just had surgery so things will be a little uncomfortable for a while.

It maybe a little frustrating for you in the beginning because you may want to eat heavy meals like you used to before the surgery but you must stick

with the diet that the surgeon had suggested. This is very important. It won't be long before you can go back to eating things that you like but you will find that you cannot physically eat that way anymore. For example you will find that you can only eat a quarter of the size that you could before. But in saying that, you may want to eat more often. This is where sticking to a healthy eating plan is detrimental.

If you have taken such drastic steps as surgery then you owe it to yourself to do the right thing. If you find it hard and you are struggling emotionally as well then there are support groups for you to go to. These groups can be a wonderful support as they are people just like you who have gone through exactly the same emotional and physical journey as yourself.
They can just be what you need when you think it is too hard.

Life after gastric bypass needn't be a hard journey as many people have sailed through with no problems at all. In fact their lives have changed so much for the better. They feel like new people. They eat healthier, exercise regularly (and love it), love going shopping for clothes, gain so much more self-esteem and generally are having a great time.

So, if you are that someone ready to take this journey then go for it with all you heart and soul. You wont regret it!
